China’s parliament is meeting to approve the party’s five year plan which includes plans to become self-sufficient in technology. While China is home to tech assembly factories, it imports $300 billion worth of chips annually and does not produce its own chipmaking gear which would be needed to ramp up production. The US continues to target China with export controls on high-end semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
